John Reha focuses his practice on litigating complex commercial disputes, unfair competition cases, matters relating to covenants not to compete and trade secrecy restrictions, and providing general legal advice on a number of business issues. He has advised numerous clients in these areas and has successfully handled many large disputes, including numerous trials in various courts around Colorado, both to judges and juries.
John also handles sale of business transactions, as well as corporate formation, planning, governance and succession matters. A recognized authority in these areas, John has been published numerous times and serves as a teacher and speaker for various groups on these topics. John's article "The Law of Trade Secrecy and Covenants not to Compete in Colorado" has the unique distinction of being one of only a select handful of two-issue lead articles in The Colorado Lawyer, the monthly professional journal of the Colorado Bar Association.
Representing clients, not only as an advocate in the areas of trade secrecy, unfair competition, and the law of intangible property, John has been requested by other attorneys to bring his expertise to their assistance, either as special co-counsel or to serve as an expert witness.
John created the leading professional education course for other Colorado lawyers in the areas of trade secrecy, non-competes and unfair competition, and has been on the adjunct faculty of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants for a decade, teaching his full day seminar on business acquisitions from the lawyer’s perspective. John’s articles, course books and seminars have uniformly been received with high praise from his colleagues at the bar, as well as from other financial professionals, advisors and business owners. A complete list of John’s articles and courses appears below. Some of them are available for download on this site.
Listed in Martindale-Hubbell's registry of Pre-Eminent Lawyers, John Reha is among select lawyers who have received an "AV" rating from his professional colleagues, which notes both the highest level of competence and ethics in the practice of law.
A native of a small Iowa town, John earned his law degree from the University of Iowa (and a die-hard Iowa Hawkeye fan). John and his wife have lived in the same house in Littleton for twenty years. They have two adult children, a daughter who is married and the mom of their grandson, and a son who is a police officer. John is active in the community, and has for twenty years served as one of the primary leaders of one of Denver's largest Thanksgiving food drives, which annually feeds upwards of 3,000 people (and which gives John the joy of being a truck driver for a couple of days every year). John spends his "down-time" riding his bike, listening to the Blues, doing home renovation projects and serving as both the office humorist and trivia master, especially relating to pop culture and the history of American music. A history major who received his B.A. from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa (which he insists is one of the world's most beautiful places), John is still an avid history nut who is always reading something by one of his favorite historians.
